A month filled with creating more memories and learning experiences; take a look at my hackathon, HOSA, DECA, and CDL takeaways!!
Snapshots of my month
Hi there! Hope your having a wonderful day! I'm Reeya, a 15 year old whose exploring emerging technology in order to work towards solving the world's biggest problems 🌎
My goal with monthly updates is to log my small steps to success and lessons as I grow over time! Here is a quick summary of my month :)
TKS HACKATHON
This month I participated in TKS explore hackathon, where we got to solve a problem using emerging technology. sub
Blood Clots are a common side effect to surgery, especially if you are immobilized after. These blood clots can develop into DVT which is deep vain thrombosis.
According to Cleveland medicine, in the United States, 1 to 3 out of every 1,000 adults experience a DVT or pulmonary embolism each year, and up to 300,000 people pass away as a result.
So why is such a pressing problem being dismissed with inefficient blood thinner which have their own subset of negative side effects?
This is where Nanomobility comes in. We created an anti-coagulated nanotechnology that breaks down the blood clot itself without effecting the entire bloodstream.
This hackathon was filled with a rollercoaster ride and created a clear do and don’t list for hackathon…
Check out my article on my takeaways here!
CDL AI WORKSHOP
CDL is an incubation lab which hosts an apprentice program every year for women- identified people to create more opportunities for those interested in STEM and business.
This month they hosted a workshop about the simple economics of AI. We got the opportunity to listen and ask Ajay Agrawal questions about this topic and his book.
One of the most eye opening things I learned is that..
Everything is a prediction problem
Things that weren’t historically considered a prediction problem can now help company save millions. This would include self driving, translation, fraud detection, particle detection, email replies, HR, and inspections. These all can be done using AI prediction and detection algorithms.
Every country is at a very different level of digitalization
E-Estonia is a great example of how our world can look in the future. Estonia is known as one of the leading digitalization countries. Essentially any bureaucratic task can be done virtually. Starting from the early 1990s, the country started developing its technology from ground up, and currently its partnering with companies and other states to create more e-states. Its crazy to think that we all live in the same world, as each country is at a very different step of their digitalization process. I can’t wait to see in the next few years, how countries digitalization plans effect the resources that the citizens receive.
HOSA FLC
The goal of HOSA is to provide HOSA-Future Health Professionals with the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to become leaders in the field of global health.
This month was their Fall Leadership Conference, where my group presented a medical innovation….
According to Penn Medicine, approximately one in ten people will have a kidney stone in their lifetime. Pain in abdominals, nausea, urine infections, and blood in urine are only a few side effects that people with kidney stones have to live with until removal. Introducing ElectroRelief, a safe new way to remove kidney stones.
So how exactly does the ElectroRelief patch revolutionize the treatment of kidney stones? Well, theres two parts of our solutions, firstly being leveraging Collision induced dissociation via electrical stimulation to break down the kidney. The second component of our device is the Infra-red emitter and sensor that maximizes effectiveness of the electrical stimulation.
Mindset of the month - figure it out 🪄
Through working in the hackathon, and other competitions, one big realization is just figure it out.
There is no solution to the world's major issues. It's just a matter of figuring things out. You won't succeed in life if you depend on others to help you figure things out or if you ask non-trivial questions all the time.
The real world doesn't spoon-feed you solutions or hold your hand the entire way. You won't be creative or think outside of the box. I really believe that the best instrument for your life and learning is the mindset of "figure it out."
I put myself to the test this week by constantly pushing myself to figure it out on my own without seeking advice from friends or family by running an entire chapter (60 people) to victory at a highly competitive business competition. 🙌
Next month ⏭️
Consulting for a large retail store 🛍️
A group of my friends and I are working with Walmart on a consultancy project to enhance Walmart's in-store digital consumer experience. Stay tuned to read about my experience, key takeaways from the challenge, and more on our recommendations!
AI based projects 🤖
My progress along some AI projects has been coming along. Next month I will be replicating an arrhythmia disease detection AI algorithm to gain more insight into the application of AI.
Christmas 🎄
Everyday tends to run and rush around. Christmas is time to take a break and spend time building relationships. Somedays, I barely get to talk to the people in my own house due to conflicting schedules. I can’t wait to spend time with my friends and family.
Thanks for reading!! That's about it for now, next month has a bunch of exciting projects coming up.. so stay tuned!! Subscribe if you haven’t already and If you have any feedback for me, I would love to connect! See you next month 🤗
